Where
We Meet
The
Association of Forensic DNA Analysts and Administrators meetings are
currently held at the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
Headquarters Complex, located at 5805 North Lamar Blvd in Austin,
Texas. Created in 1935, the Texas DPS is home to one of the largest
law enforcement agencies in the U. S. The world famous Texas Rangers
(the commissioned kind, not the baseball kind!) are also
headquartered at this complex. The DPS Training Academy is not only
responsible for preparing the states new Trooper Cadets, but also
provides classes and training to all law enforcement personnel in the
state of Texas. The Training Academy at the Texas DPS has been very
kind to AFDAA over the years. During the early 90's, the Academy
offered its classrooms to a small group of scientists to discuss DNA
applications and its use in forensics. Through word of mouth, this
small group eventually evolved into what is now AFDAA. Throughout
AFDAA's development, the Training Academy has always provided space
for the meetings and, when space is available, rooms and board at a
minimal cost to the attendees. AFDAA will forever be indebted to the
Texas Department of Public Safety for all of its support and sponsorship.
Austin
Texas is home to the Texas State Capitol and the University of
Texas. Attendees to the AFDAA meetings have much to choose from for
after hour entertainment. Whether you are in the mood for
sophisticated fun in the Warehouse District, Fine Dining in some of
the nations most underrated restaurants or wild parties on 6th
street, Austin can provide something for everyone. Live music is a
favorite pastime among locals, and Austin boasts one of the largest
concentrations of bookstores and movie theaters per capita in the U.S. |
